The Old Farmhouse

The Old Farmhouse at Öngulsstaðir is a very interesting building from a construction development perspective. It is an unique example of houses built in 19th century Iceland, when rural people were beginning to decommission the traditional turf houses and different materials were being introduced.  A part of the house was erected around 1830 and the original timber has kept amazingly well. The house‘s largest room used to be called the Theatre and served as a community hall for the locals who would use it for setting up plays as well as for large receptions or parties. The building history of the Old Farmhouse itself is an unique one and will surprise many a visitor. Having Jóhannes and Ragnheiður show one around the house is a memorable experience, both of them knowing its history in detail.

The Old Farmhouse in its unique surroundings is well suited for various kinds of receptions. For instance we regularly welcome groups of guests on Eyjafjörður Gourmet Tours, organized by Saga Travel. Groups planning to dine at Lamb Inn can have their appetizers served in the Old Farmhouse and the Theatre will seat up to 15 guests for dinner.

During the summer, The Old Farmhouse has fixed opening hours (to be announced here). Off season openings are available on request.
